The Sensational World According To Jaimie: My List of Things Great People Do That EVERYONE Should Do

My goodness it has been a couple of weeks since Jaimie has put her post up. She's been very busy and also had some things going on and hasn't wanted to post. BUT she's in the mood today and asked me to put something up for her.

I have to admit this week's post had me tearing up. I love the brutally honest nature that kids have, especially those with Spectrum issues that don't realize any other way. I know there are times we need to fine-tune this in our 'sensational' kids but most times I am almost envious how they can say things we all think and only wish we could say.

This week Jaimie wants you to know that she's figured out that 'great' people (and I put that in single quotes because she doesn't mean you need to be rich or famous to be great) have certain qualities that she thinks all of us should try to practice having.

And I agree with her.
This is Jaimie now.

Okay, I think there are some people who are great. When you're great it's not because you're a super hero or something but because you're doing great things for other people. You know. Kinda like The Beatles and Michael Buble with music and Mama with her books and me and other kids like me with having SPD. People that are great they do stuff that makes other people feel good and helps them. That's super important, you know.

So here's what I think you have to be like to be great:

~ nice - and that means to everybody not just your friends and stuff.
~ honest - that means those little fibs are bad too.
~ not be a cheater - I guess that's sort of like being honest only worser.
~ do good things for people even when you don't have to
~ stand up for someone who can't do it alone
~ make someone smile
~ always make someone feel better when they're sad. You don't have to hug them or anything if you don't like that. I don't do it. But you can hug with your words. Mama says I'm good at that.
~ don't not be someone's friend just because someone tells you not to. I think that's called acceptance, right?
~ always do what's right and say you're sorry when you're wrong
~ listen to someone when they need to talk, even if you're busy. Mama always does that for me and I try too.
~ always give to other people that have less than you do. Mama and us do that all the time for her charity.

Hm. I think that's all I can think of for now. But you can be great too. All you have to do is think of someone you think is great then see what they do.

What a remarkable little girl! I've read several of her blogs and I'd like to say: Dear Jamie, I know just what you mean when you talked about things getting all tangled up in your head when you try to say them out loud. I've been a professor for a long time and I have to go into a classroom of 60 college students and talk about art history, (stuff about Leonardo da Vinci and other artists,) and I forget how to make things sound like what I mean a lot.
I also agree with all your ideas about what makes a person great. Personally, I think you're really great.
I've written a book about a little girl called Lucy who has a homework assignment that's really hard. So, she gets help from a magical little corgi. They fly back in time and she makes friends with some famous artists. The dog's name is Wilbur. I named him that because when he was a puppy, he looked just like little the drawing of little
Wilbur the pig in the book Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. I would love it if you would like to read the story of Lucy and Wilbur. Sincerely, Nancy

To continue, Chynna
I have written a middle age children’s book called Lucy and Wilbur about a child between 8 and 10 whose feelings of inadequacy force her to doubt her own ideas when asked to give spontaneous answers ie how she feels when she looks at a painting. I hope to help children, who heap pressure on themselves, I also hope to communicate to teachers that each child learns at different levels and in different ways and that certain children become anxious if they don’t understand something as quickly as others in their class. Moreover, these children must be gently nudged of guided toward the realization that their ideas are valuable because they are unique. Nobody sees the world through their eyes. I am trying to get an agent to represent me. The book is in the tradition of Kate diCamillo’s books. There are no frightening monsters, there is no villain. I suppose this is not what sells currently. Sadly, books today for the 8 to 12 year-olds, such as Chalotte’sWeb are few and far between.

“Children are the only people who accept a mood of wonderment, who are ready to welcome a perfect miracle at any hour of the day or night. Only a child can entertain an angel unawares, or to meet Sir Launcelot in shining armor on a moonlit road."
